The Innocents, review – Telegraph

English Gothic doesn’t come much more textbook than this unrivalled 1961 version of Henry James’s Turn of the Screw – a crackling, eerie, coldly beautiful account of the novel, which reveals new subtleties and meanings every time you go back. Reissued as a Christmas centrepiece in the BFI’s Gothic season, it’s a fireside ghost story for a chill winter’s night.
