  1. I am trying to locate a short story by Algernon Blackwood but do not know the title. It involves a framed painting hanging in a bedroom depicting lake with a small rowing boat containing a china man. Over several nights the boat gradually comes nearer to the front of the painting, eventually filling the room and taking the room’s occupant into the boat. I saw this more than fifty years ago in a TV series of Blackwood’s short stories and have never forgotten it; a very vivid and frightening story…but what was it called? Any ideas? Can you help? Does anyone else know to which story I am referring? Thank you, John Stott
